Coyotes in Community
Posted By rhart on March 20, 2024
Coyotes have been spotted in the Paseo Westpark community and the Board would like to remind all residents and their families to be aware of this and to take the necessary precautions while outdoors. Coyotes have become used to living around people in urban settings and may approach people or their pets. In order to protect yourself, your children and pets, please follow these tips:
· Never intentionally feed coyotes. This is actually illegal in the State of California.
· Avoid unintentionally feeding coyotes by removing food and water sources from your property.
· Teach children not to approach coyotes or any other wild animal.
· Do not leave small children and pets outdoors unattended.
· Avoid areas where coyotes may be denning, feeding or hiding their pups. Female coyotes will become extremely aggressive if they believe their pups are in danger.
The Irvine Police Animal Services Unit tracks coyote activity. To report sightings, please contact (949) 724-7092.
